I have never ordered a box of football cards before so I thought I would try. I was stuck with deciding which box to pick….

Then I started to think that I really enjoy the Masterpieces Baseball sets. Why not try a 2008 Masterpieces Football box? Who know I could end up with a Joe Flacco or Ray Rice Rookie Autograph (ON CARD)? After thinking about this, the choice was simple… 2008 MASTERPIECES.

I got a lot of cool cards.

Relics:

We got down to the last pack. I started thinking to myself, the autograph better be in that pack. Since I had opened both relic card packs, I let my wife open the final pack and hopefully find the autograph. She did find an autograph and my jaw dropped when she showed it to me.

That’s right a PEYTON MANNING ON CARD AUTOGRAPH!!! I could not believe it. So happy to add this card to my collection. My wife is excited too!

TTM success from the past…

I am going to start sending out TTM requests in the next few days, but figured I would showcase some of my past successes. Way back like 10 years or so, I tried my hand at TTM autographs. I was not into baseball cards at this time (wish I had been now), due to a number of reasons. But needless to say, I must have sent a ton of letters out. And the few I got back are very enjoyable. Just a fair warning, none of these TTM autographs are sports related (except the last one).

Up first is Robin Williams.

Then John Travolta.

Then Cindy Crawford.

And finally Jim Carrey.

A few weeks ago Brian from the excellent blog, Play at the Plate, was opening a pack and came across a card I really wanted to add to my collection. While opening 2009 Goodwin Champions, Brian pulled a ON CARD autograph of Nick Markakis! As soon as I saw that I quickly sent him an email and the card is now mine! THANK YOU Brian! I owe you big time.

Now that brings me to the Assignment Dinged Corners put out. What are your 3 favorite autographed cards?

  1. 1972 Topps Autograph
  2. 2008 Masterpieces Break #8 Jim Palmer Autograph
  3. Play at the plate

There you have it: My top 3 on card autographs. And thank you again Brian!

I have amassed a large collection of relic, autograph, and parallel cards that I really don’t care about. As the title of the post states, all these card are now up for trade. I will continue to post until all are listed. If you see anything you like/ want, contact me. I am currently looking for Cal Ripken Jr., Brian Robert, Nick Markakis, and Adam Jones.

My wife had bought me a third box as a present, and after opening the first two boxes, I was still excited to break the box! I was really hoping for a Cal Ripken Jr. base, black border mini, regular mini, or even the foil mini. Sadly I did not get any of them! I am still in the process of organizing everything I pulled. But for now I will share the inserts…

Weekend Visit to the Card Shop

In the process of organizing everything, I was in need of a few storage boxes and top loaders. I took a trip to the local card shop, only to find out that the one I frequently visit was closed for the day…

On to plan B, a card shop located over in Ellicott City, MD. While there I found everything I was looking for and more. While inside, I picked up more information about a signing featuring Brooks Robinson and Art Donovan coming up next month. I have a lot of stuff already autographed by Brooks, but I really want to get a picture of him with my son and me. If we have the funds I would like to get the same with Art Donovan. We will see.

After getting side tracked, I got the boxes, top loaders, and other supplies. While standing in the checkout line, with all the packs on display, I had to pick up at least one. So after much debate, I ended up with 2 packs of 2009 SPx. I ran out to put all my stuff in the car, and ripped open the packs.

Here is what I got:

2009 SPx #2

All cards pictured here are available for trade.

I was totally excited to have two boxes arrive today from Blowout Cards. As I was opening the boxes with my wife and son, my wife pointed out how flimsy the cards were. I believe if Upper Deck had put in the time to create a better back to the cards and use better card stock, this product could definitely compete will A&G. I mean the artwork and images on the cards are great. However, it just feels cheap.
