Orioles 2009

I was asked by Dave at Fielder’s Choice what my predictions were for the Orioles’ 2009.

Personally, I would love to see the Orioles get out of the American League East basement. I do believe that they have a lot of the pieces in place to make that happen. They don’t need the older players to make a playoff run this year, just focus on building a solid team. The Orioles should be in good shape, but we will have to watch them play a few games first.

Any given day, any given team can win! The beauty of baseball.

I don’t think many teams will have a real chance until Major League Baseball enacts a salary cap. However, last year the Tampa Bay Rays showed what a team with a drive and a vision for the future could do. Lets hope and pray the Baltimore Orioles paid close attention to the Rays season.

The Orioles are slowly building up a great core group of players and should be able to move out of last place.

On another note, if you have not voted on which set should be our first for the year, please help us.

  1. Dave says:

Well, the Orioles have paid close attention to former Rays players – they now have Wigginton, Huff, Baez, and Hendrickson. I’m excited to see what Matt Wieters can do in the majors this year. He and Markakis are two great players to build around. The pitching should get better once guys like Tillman and Matusz are major league ready. As long as the Orioles front office is patient and sticks with their plan, they should be able to complete in a few years.
