COMC joy

Everyone has a preferred way of getting cards. For some it could be opening boxes or cases, some could be trades, others maybe eBay. But for me it’s COMC. I do like trading, however since I have stopped buying boxes, I really do not have many cool cards to trade.

Recently, I have found it a great way to pick up partial sets of parallels.

I have been thinking a lot about the ways to spend my limited collecting allowance, and I always seem to end up back on COMC. I really love picking up a $.50 card to create sets of parallel cards from products I could never afford!

So with out any more delay, here are a few of my recent purchases. And the others from this batch will get future posts of their own.

Up first, a partial set of parallel cards from 2011 Topps Triple Threads. Cards numbered out of /1,500 , /625, /249, /99. For all those I spent a whopping $1.77! Which is less than 1% of the cost the hobby box they came from! Not too shabby, if you ask me.

And for the last card of this post, a very shiny 2011 Cognac Diamond Jim Palmer. Really like the look of this card!

Yet another Palmer relic

As I have stated before I like the Topps Sterling relics. This card is no different. And as an added bonus the card is numbered out of 10. So I guess that would classify this a tough pull, and pretty rare.

Palmer autograph

Been a bit, since I have added any Palmer autographs to the collection. So I got this autograph numbered to just 25!

Not a bad looking card for a sticker auto! While everyone likes to focus on on-card autographs, I must say that this card incorporates the sticker nicely. You really have to look hard to see it.

COMC- Cost effective purchases

I love adding cards of the players I collect from high end boxes. There is no way, with family obligations and everything else going on, I could ever afford some of these boxes. Maybe one day I will try a box of high end cards.

One example is the 2011 Topps Tier One Jim Palmer blue numbered 199/199. From what I found during some research, this card comes out of a >;;;;$80 6 card pack! And this one card was the one parallel in the pack/box. So I am quite happy to have added this card to the collection at such a low price.

First eTopps

I have signed up to receive email information from Topps and I always seem to get a bunch of eTopps information. Some of the cards look okay, I am not a fan of the eTopps model.

That being said, I was able to pick up this Robinson for less then a pack of cards including shipping. Not too shabby!

Collection goals

Unsure where we will be moving next year, I have spent a good amount of time trying to figure out which direction to take the collection.

With money still being quite short, I figured I should lower my expectations for the coming year.

Originally, my primary goal was to finally reach the 1,000 Cal card mark. But with over 200 cards needed to hit 1,000 and the cost of his cards, I figure I will settle for 50-100 new Ripkens in the new year. And as I get each new Ripken I will do my best to remember to blog about each one.

Next is the Palmer and Brooks collection. Already over 200 Palmers and 150 Brooks, I figured why not try to add 20-25 to each collection.

And just to get a good mix, let’s try and reach 150+ different Ray Lewis cards. So I roughly need about 50 more.

So in total I have the realistic goal of roughly 200 new cards in my collection in 2013. Which feels quite manageable to me. Works out to about 4 cards per week!
